This historic lakefront classic Duluth home on a fantastic lot was a pure joy to design around. The goal was to create an outdoor living space within existing perennial gardens, with the lake in view. The home’s architecture and materials dictated a lot of the design choices in the patio area. We used limestone that matched the accents on the home for stairs and walls. In contrast we chose New York Bluestone cut pattern for the paving. The end result is an expansive yet understated patio area surrounded by gardens with a gorgeous view of Lake Superior.
A limestone border was installed around the existing perennial gardens squaring them to the house and patio while connecting the limestone element from the house and patio area the existing perennial gardens.
The clients agreed that the patio looks like it was built with the house. Through careful consideration we were able to create the perfect traditional patio to match the traditional home.
